About the Position

The Director of Finance is responsible for managing all financial activities of the agency, including budgeting, accounting, compliance, contract management, and financial planning for redevelopment initiatives. This includes overseeing financials for operating funds, grants, construction projects, and real estate transactions.

This is a hands-on leadership role that involves maintaining internal controls, leading annual audits, and building the financial systems and procedures that will support the organization’s growth. The Director will work closely with the COO and may grow into a future Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management for both operations and redevelopment projects
  • Oversee financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to leadership, funders, and the board
  • Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting systems in accordance with GAAP
  • Serve as the agency’s in-house accountant, managing reconciliations, journal entries, receivables, and payables
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead the annual audit process in collaboration with external auditors
  • Track and manage all grant funding, tax credits, and capital sources to ensure compliance with public and private requirements
  • Manage budgets and payments for real estate transactions and construction projects
  • Track incoming and outgoing contracts, ensuring services are received and payments issued or collected as appropriate
  • Collaborate across departments on financial planning and project execution
  • Supervise financial staff and contribute to cross-functional strategy development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • CPA or Master’s degree preferred
  • 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit, government, or real estate finance
  • Experience managing audits, internal controls, and financial policies
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Experience with grants and redevelopment finance preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
